Today marks the first day that my wife will stop taking one of her heart medications. You see, about 2 months post heart surgery we’re finally ready to see if the it was actually successful. It has been a long road to travel, and this will be the first step on the road to recovery.

To many, simply stopping a medication may not seem like a big deal. For us, this is a pretty major step. Not only does it signify the potential end of one of my wife’s maladies, but it is also a mental hurdle to clear as well. Before the surgery, just knowing that her heart could go nuts at any second was enough of an emotional drain as it was physical. This could potentially be the end of being jolted awake at 3AM by Anita saying “Here’s your cell phone. I’m going to emergency”. I had to stay home to take care of the kids, but never went back to sleep knowing that my wife was driving alone in the middle of the night to the hospital emergency.

At the risk of sounding too melodramatic, the ending of this one heart medication signifies so much more.
