I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and although I am convinced that there is also something else going on, I don't deny that I have fibro. I desperately need to find some kind of treatment or coping stragety because right now I am at a dead end. The last doctor I saw pushed me to take anti-depressants which makes me extremely uncomfortable because I've had a bad reaction to them before. Do you have any suggestions? I feel like doctors aren't taking me seriously because I wont take certain medications and they don't give me any other options. I am stuck between continuing to live the painful life I've been living or taking something I know isn't right for me.

As you said : "The typical American diet consists of too much fat, tons of sugar, loads of red meat, and a frightening amount of processed foods – all of which are likely to increase inflammation and contribute to obesity, which itself is can cause inflammation." is absolutely correct. American diet is to be blamed for most of the health problems.

And As you said is also right : Healthy Diet, Enough Sleep, and Exercise on regular basis are the only steps to get rid of any health problem and live healthy.

It is a sad story though comparing your wife with flower is meaningful and sensitive. I believe you have not tried other medical sciences. Looking at your wife's case, I would like to suggest you to go for Acupuncture Therapy. I believe you must be knowing about it. And other, I would like to suggest you Yoga therapy. Both of them are natural, without any side effects, therapies and it is my observation that your wife will be all right by one of the therapies. I would first suggest to go for Acupuncture.

Thank you for sharing nice story.

I have sacro-iliitis that is very painful and persistent but I've never considered surgery. What's been working for me so far is to cycle in and out of physical therapy. I usually do about 3 months with PT and then 3 months off.

It's been more than 6 months currently and I've been in a huge amount of pain. My rheumatologist is putting me back in. The PT usually does pain relief modalities such as ultrasound and iontophoresis. That controls the pain and allows me to do more stretching and exercise. I've found that yoga helps quite a bit for periods of time. My orthopedic surgeon says that gentle but frequent stretching helps my muscles and connective tissue.

But that's just my experience right now. Who knows what the future holds. Surgeries are hard on me and I do that as the very last resort.

I hope whatever y'all decide works well for you!

Hi Jim,
Thank you so much for responding and sharing your experiences. My cardiologist told me that the procedure has a 30-50 percent fail rate on average the first time. We're hoping for slightly better odds at Baylor because they have some new technology, including robotics and cryo-ablation with a balloon. I don't know if if I'm a candidate for that yet.

Right now, we're dealing with the payment battle. My insurance approved it and gave me an authorization but Baylor doesn't want to take my Medicare Advantage plan, sigh. I really don't have the strength to be fighting that battle but it's got to be done.

Sending along all of my best wishes and hopes for improvement to you! I hope y'all get a respite from the pain and worries that these diseases bring!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Julia,

Thanks for the note and message. I appreciate you taking the time to become involved.

My wife has had the procedure twice - the most recent being this past February 2011. We had the initial procedure done 5 years previous, but it was unsuccessful. We were told by the surgeon that it was successful in 90% of the cases and, of course with our luck, it ended up not being successful. After the second procedure in February, things seemed to even out. Unfortunately, the past few months she has noticed things acting up again, so I'm sure we'll need to look into things again. From what I remember, they put my wife under for both procedures. We asked specifically to be put under.

So, we soldier on... hopeful and praying for some sort of resolution. The constant worrying and wondering does get a little tiresome, but we know that we are ultimately not the ones in control.

Many blessings to you and your family over this holiday season!

I just found your site and this post after a friend recommended it! I, too, have SLE and bad atrial fib. My cardiologist and internist are worried that I'm going to have a stroke if it's not managed ASAP so I'll be having an ablation fairly soon. We're trying to work out the details for Baylor's heart hospital quickly.

I've been told upfront that one ablation may not be enough but this really does need to be done because of the severity and frequency of my arrhythmia. How did it go for y'all? Did your wife get relief and did the procedure help? Was she awake for it and does it really take about 6 hours? With my pain level, I don't know how on Earth I'd be able to stay awake and perfectly still without being in a huge amount of pain. Ten minutes in one position is generally my limit! Is general anaesthesia offered at all?

Blessings to you and your family!

Consider adding Nucynta (Tapentadol) to your pain relief list. It is considered much stronger than Tridural, but not as strong as Morphine. I've been on 150 mg 2x/day for only a few weeks. It has NO nasty side effects for me. I can't say that it helps fatigue - I'm certainly not more awake. But I do feel I get better sleep and sleep longer than I had before starting the medication.

I'm telling everyone I know about it in hopes it works better for them too!
